For patients undergoing a dental surgical procedure, and have feelings of anxiety or a phobic condition, a general anaesthesia can help put you to sleep whilst we take care of your dental treatment.
For some patients, a general anaesthesia may be a rite of passage in confidently completing invasive dental treatment (for example, wisdom tooth surgery, multiple tooth extractions, placement of multiple dental implants or All-on-4, etc) or even combinations of these.
Dental treatment plans that may otherwise be too excessive for you to complete all in one go can now be fulfilled in one visit with a general anaesthesia.
For patients with certain medical conditions such as severe psychiatric conditions, severe learning difficulties, etc, a general anaesthesia may be the solely mode to which they can accept dental treatment safely.
After your treatment, the anaesthetic effects will continue to linger so you will need to plan ahead. It is necessary for a reliable family member or friend to accompany you home via appropriate transport and take care of you after. You also cannot drive, operate any machinery, drink alcohol, or go to work for the next 24 hours. It is normal not to remember full details about your appointment.
