Conventional bridges utilize retainers on each end of the bridge to support its pontic and provide good stability.
They can be made of precious metal, porcelain-fused-to-metal, or full ceramics such as lithium disilicate or zirconia.
Cantilever bridges use solely the retainer on one end of the bridge (usually the end further to the back) to support its pontic.
These types of bridges are not as commonly used as conventional bridges as they are not as stable and can compromise its supporting tooth.
Maryland or resin-bonded bridges use a retainer wing to hold in place its pontic.
